Plastic Free: Roseto degli Abruzzi receives “two turtles”

Going greener! Another step towards sustainable tourism!

On 14 March 2026, the town of Roseto degli Abruzzi received the national recognition “Plastic Free Municipality” with a two-turtle rating, an important award that honours Italian municipalities committed to protecting the environment and reducing plastic pollution.

The award is presented every year by Plastic Free Onlus, an organisation active throughout Italy with projects focused on environmental awareness, territory clean-ups and ecosystem protection.

🐢 What do the “turtles” represent?

The recognition is symbolised by the sea turtle, a species particularly threatened by plastic pollution in the environment.

Municipalities are evaluated according to several criteria, including:

  • waste management
  • actions to prevent plastic littering
  • environmental education initiatives
  • involvement of the local community and schools
  • clean-up activities across the territory and along the beaches

The rating ranges from one to three turtles, with three representing the highest level of environmental commitment.

🌊 A recognition that looks to the sea

For a seaside town on the Adriatic coast like Roseto degli Abruzzi, this recognition has a special meaning.

Protecting the marine environment, the beaches and the surrounding landscape is becoming increasingly important both for residents’ quality of life and for visitors’ experience.

In recent years, the area has seen a growing number of environmental initiatives, awareness campaigns, school projects and volunteer activities dedicated to caring for the environment.

🌱 Moving towards more sustainable tourism

Receiving two Plastic Free turtles means that Roseto has strengthened its commitment to a more environmentally responsible development model.

It is also a vision:
a destination where the sea, nature and landscape are precious resources to be protected and enhanced.

For those choosing Roseto degli Abruzzi for their holiday, it means discovering not only one of the most loved beaches on the Adriatic coast, but also a community increasingly committed to sustainability.
